To invoke library, go to File Explorer, click on View, click on Navigation Pane, from there choose to put a checkmark on Libraries if you want to display it. Although library may be viewed as a hierarchy of folders, it is more than that.

To prove this, I restored all default libraries. Then in the libraries, I deleted one of the folders under documents one of its default sublibrary as I know I can restore it from the recycle bin.

There is an error message. That is how I figured, LIbrary serves exactly the same purpose as it did in Windows 7 but the Microsoft gurus made Windows 10 much more user intuitive by not having to display Library by default. I got a new computer with two drives and I want the folders that show up on the "This PC" screen to link to the library for that category rather than the folder on the main drive which is significantly smaller than the other drive.

Thanks in advance! Have you given any thought about possibly changing the default location of your user folders to the larger drive? Win When I open the Documents library, I see folders and files grouped by those three locations.

On my Win 7 machine, with the same setup, I saw a single list of folders followed by a single list of files each in sort order by name. It seems as though there is some "Group By' setting that needs to be changed, but I find no reference to it anywhere. Can you help? Open Windows Explorer in Windows 10 and navigate to the Libraries section in the left-hand column. Expand the Libraries and select the Documents library. On the top of Windows Explorer, select the View tab.

Under the Current view section, there is Sort by and Group by. Under Sort by select Name and Ascending. Under Group by, deselect everything. That should give you a continuous list of all of the folders and files in ascending order.

These known folders are automatically included in the default libraries and set as the default save location. That is, when users drag, copy, or save a file to the Documents library, the file is moved, copied, or saved to the My Documents folder.

Administrators and users can change the default save-to location. Users or administrators can hide or delete the default libraries, though the libraries node in the Navigation pane can't be hidden or deleted. Hiding a default library is preferable to deleting it, as applications like Windows Media Player rely on the default libraries and will re-create them if they don't exist on the computer. See How to Hide Default Libraries for instructions.

Each library has a default save location. Files are saved or copied to this location if the user chooses to save or copy a file to a library, rather than a specific location within the library. Known folders are the default save locations; however, users can select a different save location. If the user removes the default save location from a library, the next location is automatically selected as the new default save location.

If the library is empty of locations or if all included locations can't be saved to, then the save operation fails. Certain library features depend on the contents of the libraries being indexed. Library locations must be available for local indexing or be indexed in a manner conforming to the Windows Indexing Protocol. If indexing isn't enabled for one or more locations within a library, the entire library reverts to basic functionality:.

To avoid this limited functionality, all locations within the library must be indexable, either locally or remotely.
